Information for the Pens List This is the the second part of the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for the pens@zoss.com listserv, a free internet mailing list operated by Thomas Zoss for people interested in the hobby and business of fountain pen collecting. PLEASE NOTE: This mailing list is now using new software and uses new commands and a different system for subscribing and unsubscribing. This page has changed. PLEASE READ. GENERAL INFORMATION The pens list allows people to send a message to every subscriber by sending only one message. The computer distributes the same message to everyone via internet e-mail. There are now 1600 subscribers to the list. This is a free list for pen collectors distributed by Tom Zoss (tzoss@zoss.com). TWO VERSIONS AVAILABLE The "regular" mode distributes information message by message. A message comes in, is approved, and goes out to the subscriber list. Subscribers to the list in regular mode seem to enjoy the constant 24/7 flow of messages. Separate messages are easy to file, print, or delete. Another version of the list is available that collects messages and sends them out in a "digest" or packet. The digest mode is a choice you can make when you subscribe. It distributes the same messages in collected digests rather than mant separate messages.Digest subscribers often want to manage in-box clutter. THE FOLLOWING MATERIAL IS NEW WE HAVE NEW LIST SOFTWARE The Zoss Pens List now uses EZMLM software. It is very easy to use because all commands are handled by using e-mail messages. Commands are determined by the address you use, and all message contents are ignored. All administrative requests are handled automatically by e-mail. Please do not send administrative requests to the main list address. Instead, send your message to the correct command address: To subscribe to the list, send a message to: To remove your address from the
list, just send a message to the address in the "List-Unsubscribe" header
of any list message. If you haven't changed addresses since subscribing,
you can also send a message to: For addition or removal of addresses, you will receive a confirmation message to that address. When you receive it, simply reply to it to complete the transaction.
What if you want to subscribe your home address but you're sitting at your office computer? You can start a subscription for an alternate address, for example "john@host.domain", just add a hyphen and your address (with '=' instead of '@') after the command word:
Note that the confirmation message will go to the address where the subscription will go.
To stop a subscription for that remote address, mail: For the file that
answers Frequently Answered Questions and a description of available
commands, send a message to: For help and a description of available commands, send a message to: If you want to know if you are already subscribed at your address send a message to: If you need to get in touch with the human owner of this list
please send a message to: If you are having a problem with messages, bounces, etc. please include a FORWARDED copy of that message with ALL HEADERS intact to make it easier to help you. WHERE TO SEND A MESSAGE? If you are a subscriber and want to send a message to everyone on the list send it to: pens@zoss.com (all messages go to this address. There is no separate address for the digest). |
