Dorothy Chamberlin Remembered

Serving the students of John Adams High School in South Bend, Indiana, for many years, long-time School nurse Dorothy Chamberlin passed away on October 22, 2000.

Dorothy Chamberlin Born in Sheldon, North Dakota in 1910, she lived 90 years and was involved with her family, and children of all ages throughout her life.

She was a graduate of the University of North Dakota in the depths of the Depression and soon moved on to nursing school, graduating from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Fargo in 1938. She moved to Mishawaka and served as an instructor at St. Joseph Hospital.

Nurse Chamberlin joined the South Bend schools in 1949 and worked for 25 years as the school nurse before retiring in 1975.

Her husband Louis passed away in 1959, as did a step-son (Louis Frederick) in 1993.

She was survived by two sons, Louis ("Gene") and Michael, both Adams graduates, who have since passed away.

Dorothy was a people-lover, a kindly and helpful person. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh and often made people feel better just by taking an interest in their problems. She was an important part of the team that guided John Adams during its "golden years." The whole John Adams family will miss her presence.
